The plate-like aluminum pigments are partially coated with lubricant where average thickness is determined by thickness counting with scanning electron microscopy. Relative width of the thickness distribution is determined by thickness counting on the basis the corresponding cumulative curve of the relative frequencies from 30% to less than 70% and X-ray diffractogram which is measured on pigments plane paraller arrangement , with one or two main peaks that are not [111]-reflexes. The aluminum pigments are manufactured through grinding process. The thickness distribution delta is calculated by the formula delta h=100*(h 90-h 10)/h 50. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of plate-like aluminum pigments which involves grinding the aluminum chips of different particle size distribution using a grinding mill in the presence of solvents and lubricants.
