PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible miniaturization and prevention of destruction or deterioration in an imaging element caused by a negative voltage. SOLUTION: A horizontal/vertical driver 3 in which horizontal drivers 31, 32 and vertical drivers 33-37 are made into modules in accordance with driving of a five-phase driving type CCD, is used for driving a four-phase driving type CCD 1. An output terminal V5 of the vertical driver 37 that is not required for driving the CCD 1 is connected to a grounded discharging resistor 10. When turning off a power source, a voltage level of the output terminal V5 of the vertical driver 37 is temporarily switched to -7V and then voltage supply to respective sections including the CCD 1 is stopped. Unnecessary charge of a power supply circuit is released to the resistor 10 and discharged and a negative voltage level in the power supply circuit is quickly turned to ground level, thereby preventing the destruction or deterioration in an imaging element. As the imaging element is prevented from being destroyed or deteriorated, the space for disposing electronic components or electronic circuits to be newly secured on a substrate within a camera is extremely reduced.
