In the case of a steerable wheel axle for a motor vehicle, in which a hydrostatic or power-assisted steering system 6 is arranged inside the rigid body of the axle, the design dimensions and weight of the body of the axle have to be kept virtually unaltered, despite the fact that the steering system is incorporated into the body of the axle, and the steering arrangement must be protected against harmful effects.
