The oscillating armature 7 of a shaver motor is disposed between A.C. excited poles 5, 6 so profiled that the width of air-gaps 13, 14 (i.e. in the direction of flux across the gap) varies linearly with armature deflection to ensure sinusoidal oscillation. The armature pole profiles may be straight and the field poles between a straight line and a hyperbola. The armature is mounted on a torsion spring 8.
