<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new planar light source device suitable for enlargement. <P>SOLUTION: The surface light source device comprises a light source having a plurality of discharge spaces, first and second electrodes placed in parallel with each other to apply first voltage to the discharge spaces, and a third electrode facing the first and the second electrodes and placed perpendicularly to their formation direction to apply second voltage to the discharge spaces. In this configuration, since the first voltage and the second voltage are applied to each electrode facing perpendicularly, discharge starting voltage and driving voltage of the planar light source device can be decreased. Moreover, the planar light source device can be partially driven by applying voltage selectively to each electrode one after another. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
