<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate judgment of the cause of shut down when a protective function acts to stop an inverter in the inverter used for an air conditioner or a refrigerating system such as a refrigerating machine. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter includes a circuit for detecting a DC current flowing through the inverter, and a circuit for detecting an overcurrent when the DC current thus detected exceeds a set value.
