PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image encoding method in which interruption of reproduction is blocked without increasing the processing load at the time of decoding.

SOLUTION: A motion picture encoding method determines a continuous section becoming an object of seamless reproduction, generates a stream by encoding a motion picture without switching the encoding position in the continuous section, generates a play list indicating the reproduction order of one or more reproduction sections each consisting of the entirety or a part of the stream, inserts positional information indicating the encoding position of information in units of macro block for every picture unit, and adds the information in units of macro block in the stream when the positional information has a first value and adds the information in units of picture in the stream when the positional information has a second value. The play list includes flag information indicating that the encoding position in the continuous reproduction section is fixed for every reproduction section.
