PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image carrier having high durability and achieving high picture quality for a long period of time by using a surface layer having high wear resistance, favorable electric characteristics and high cleaning property for a spheric toner. SOLUTION: The image carrier has at least a photosensitive layer on a conductive support; wherein the surface of the photosensitive layer has a surface layer, and the surface layer consists of a crosslinked resin layer, in which fine particles having a needle form are dispersed, formed by curing at least a tri- or higher functional radical-polymerizable monomer having no charge transporting structure and a radical-polymerizable compound having a charge transporting structure.
