<p>A data processing apparatus comprising a variable speed processor, a power management controller adapted to control the frequency of a clock signal provided to the processor, and a memory adapted to store power management data in respect of each of plural software applications, wherein the power management controller is configured to consult the memory and determine a suitable processor speed based on a determination of active applications and the power management data, and to control the frequency of the clock signal accordingly. The plural applications may comprise a packet-switched data application such as high speed Internet, email and video telephony. A method of operating and a method of manufacturing the data processing apparatus are also provided.</p> |
