An apparatus and a method for providing a tactile user interface in a mobile terminal are provided to provide differentiated tactile reactions with respect to menus, functions or a user manipulation by making vibrations of different frequencies according to a movement or a position of a pointer, and a region where the pointer is placed. A pointing device(110) receives manipulation of a pointer from a user. A display(120) displays the pointer on a screen. A memory(170) stores information having a voltage level to be provided to a vibration unit(160) according to a coordinate value of the pointer. A controller(130) outputs a control signal based on the coordinate value of the pointer on the display according to a movement of the pointing device, and the information of the memory. The vibration unit generates vibration according to the control signal. A battery module(140) supplies power. A power supply unit(150) converts power of the battery module into a voltage suitable for a corresponding level according to the control signal, and outputs the same to the vibration unit.
