A wireless mesh network connecting multiple wireless LAN networks (106, 107, 108) and a backbone (100). The mesh nodes (101,102,...) execute a method for channel assignment to use on a link (110) between an initiating node (101 and a participating node (102). The heating node (101) requests permission from participating node (102) for the channéldhànge. After permission is granted, the initiating node (101) and participating node (102) change to the new channel.
