Permanent deformation of keratinous fibers, preferably hair, comprises: stretching the keratinous fibers; applying a reducing composition on the keratinous fibers, for reducing disulfide bonds of the keratinous fiber, where the reducing composition comprises a reducing agent (0.1-3 wt.%) in a medium; optionally rinsing; drying the keratinous fiber; and fixing by oxidation to form the bonds, by applying an oxidizing composition on the keratinous fibers. An independent claim is included for a kit comprising at least first compartment comprising the reducing composition and at least second compartment comprising the oxidizing composition.
