<p>A skag for a ski, such as a vehicle ski. The skag includes a carrier platform (122) to be attached to the bottom surface (114) of a ski. First and second longitudinal rails (130,140) are disposed on the bottom surface of the carrier platform. The longitudinal rails are spaced apart laterally from one another. The first and second rails are staggered, such that the forward end (132) of the first rail (130) is farther forward than the forward end (142) of the second rail (140), and the aft end (144) of the second rail (140) is farther aft than the aft (134) end of the first rail (130). The aft end (134) of the first rail may be at least as far forward as the forward end (142) of the second rail. At least one of the rails may have a longitudinal keel (146) disposed thereon, and at least one of the rails may have a hard-surface (138) weld-disposed thereon. When two skags are used together, as on two adjacent skis, the rails and/or keels on the skags may be arranged so that one skag is a mirror reverse of the other.
