A paste composition for forming an arcing prevention film, and a field emission surface light source device containing the film prepared by using the composition are provided to decrease the emission amount of residual gas at a field emission surface light source device, thereby improving current density and lifetime. A paste composition for forming an arcing prevention film comprises 10-70 wt% of a metal or a metal oxide; 10-50 wt% of glass frit; 5-30 wt% of an acrylic resin which has a solid carbon residue amount of 0.3 wt% or less when sintered at 300-450 deg.C (wherein a solid carbon residue is a solid residue remaining after the heat treatment of an organic compound containing carbon and the solid carbon residue amount is the weight of a specific material after sintering to the weight before sintering); and the balance of a solvent.
