A method for controlling temperature of a display device and a display device using the same are provided to control the temperature of a display panel by utilizing temperature information obtained from heat from a driving IC. A display device includes a detecting unit(4) and an image processing circuit(5). The detecting unit detects heat generated from power consumption of a driving IC(Integrated Circuit), which supplies currents to illumination elements, and outputs temperature information according to the detection result. The image processing circuit compares first temperature information from the detecting unit with second temperature information having position information for increasing temperature detection data as much as the driving IC of a display panel using a predetermined lookup table, and controls to supply currents to the illumination elements according to the comparison result.
