A processed extract of Black Panax Quinquefolium L. prepared by a 9-time steaming and drying method or a high temperature and high pressure method is provided to show excellent anti-cancer activity in vivo and in vitro, thereby being usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food for preventing and treating cancer. A pharmaceutical composition or a health functional food for preventing and treating cancer diseases comprises 0.1-50 wt.% of a processed extract of Black Panax Quinquefolium L. prepared by a 9-time steaming and drying method or a high temperature and high pressure method as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is extracted with a solvent such as water, C1-4 alcohol and a mixture solvent thereof.
