A method for controlling a washing machine is provided to prevent fire by stopping a motor before an IPM(Intelligent Power Module) is overheated and to re-start a washing machine after a predetermined time. A method for controlling a washing machine comprises the steps of: inputting a washing or a rinsing command and driving a motor in accordance with an input command(S102); controlling the motor with a basic IPM duty(S103); sensing the temperature of an IPM(S104); and stopping the motor if the temperature of the IPM is over a first set temperature and controlling the motor with a different IPM duty(S107). |
