An electromagnetic shock absorber including a motor with increased usability. The coil (60) of the motor (52) installed in the electromagnetic shock absorber (10) is formed vertically movable relative to an inner tube (22) connected to a wheel side and supported on the inner tube elastically by springs (74, 78) to allow the axial relative movement of the coil to a permanent magnet (56) due to the relative movement of the coil to the inner tube. By such a structure, oscillation transmitted from a wheel to the motor is relieved, and the motor is sufficiently protected against the oscillation. Since the absorber comprises an unsprung dynamic damper in which the coil functions as a mass, the transmission of the high-frequency oscillation of an unsprung component to a sprung component can be effectively suppressed.
