<p>The present invention relates to the use of N-substituted ?-methylene ?-lactams as non-steroidal ligands for modulating ecdysone receptors generally and, in particular, ecdysone receptors of the Australian blowfly, Lucilia cuprina. The present invention further relates to novel N-substituted ?-methylene ?-lactams. These compounds are useful as insecticides or as lead compounds for the development of insecticides. The compounds are also useful as effectors for ecdysone switches.</p>
