PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of keeping, even when the number of characters of a name to be superposed and displayed on a map picture is large, excellent visibility of both the map picture and the name to be superposed and displayed thereon. SOLUTION: When the number of characters of a road name, a regional name, or a facility name to be superposed and displayed on the map picture exceeds the maximum number of display characters, an ECU 8 sets a scroll display area at the display position of the road name, the regional name, or the facility name on the map picture, defines the name data as scroll required name data, and scroll displays the scroll required name data in the scroll display area.
