PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file discrimination method for discriminating between files which have been copied and files which have not been copied by detecting file information that has been copied onto a PC, at a side of a camera. SOLUTION: The camera 1 comprises a file recording means 14 for recording photographic data constituting a file for the unit of a cluster; a receiving means 14 for receiving a control signal from a PC 2; a discrimination means for discriminating whether the received control signal is a copying command for copying the file; a recording means 19 for recording cluster information of photographic data copied onto the PC 2 when the control signal is decided as a copying command; and a detection means 14 which compares all the cluster information recorded by the file recording means with the cluster information recorded by the recording means to detect a file with all the cluster information pieces matched, and only the detected file is deleted.
