<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for manufacturing an integrally bladed rotor. <P>SOLUTION: This system includes: a ring component (20) including at least one metal matrix composite (18) and a continuous radially outwardly facing a conical surface (24); an airfoil component (10) where a plurality of individual airfoil blades (12) are further included, wherein at least a portion of each individual airfoil blade (12) is reinforced by at least one metal matrix composite (18), and each of the plurality of airfoil blades (12) further includes a radially inwardly facing blade conical surface (14); and an inertia welding means for making the ring component (20) frictionally engaged with the airfoil component (10) under an axially applied weld load to perform the inertia welding therebetween along the conical surfaces (14) and (24). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
