APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MULTIPLEXING HARDWARE SECURITY MODULE

A device and a method for multiplexing an HSM(Hardware Security Module) are provided to manage service failure effectively and construct a scalable system capable conveniently enlarging system processing capacity at a low expense according to traffic increase in future by effectively and safely multiplexing the HSM necessary for cyber banking system or a WiBro(Wireless Broadband) user authentication device. A master HSM(20-m) forms more than one security channel with a slave HSM(20-n) by generating a transceiving session key using a public/private key pair of the master HSM, and copies new and/or modified information to the slave HSM through the security channel. The slave HSM forms the security channel with the master HSM by generating the transceiving session key using the public/private key pair of the slave HSM, and stores the new and/or modified information received through the security channel. A next priority HSM among more than one slave HSM is automatically switched to the mast HSM according to predetermined priority order when failure occurs in the master HSM. A security channel manager(23) of the HSM manages the setup and release of a channel to safely transmit creation and updating information inside the master HSM to the slave HSM.
