Degradation in demodulation performance is suppressed when a pilot signal cannot be received normally. A carrier reproducer comprises a rotation operating section for multiplying a baseband signal by an oscillation signal and outputting the result, a section for extracting a pilot signal from the output of the rotation operating section, an error detection control section for outputting the phase error between the pilot signal and a reference signal as a value limited to within a predetermined range, a loop filter section for delivering the output from the error detection control section after smoothing, and a frequency variable oscillating section for generating a signal dependent on the output from the loop filter section and outputting it as the oscillation signal.
