Receivable service provider channels are loaded in the memory locations of the tuner in a search mode using a control device. An automatic evaluation is made as to whether or not a suitable decoder for allowing access to the transmission is fitted in the receiver. Assignment of a receiver channel is only performed when decoding of the service transmission is possible. An Independent claim for a receiver with a tuning device and a tuning system is also included.
