PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a polymerizable non-liquid crystal compound satisfying a plurality of characteristics in the characteristics such that the compound is colorless and readily polymerized at room temperature, easily photopolymerized, readily soluble in solvents, chemically stable and has good compatibility with a polymerizable liquid crystal compound, good wettability with a supporting substrate etc. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula (1), wherein Z<SP>1</SP>is -CH<SB>2</SB>-, -CO-, -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>2</SB>-CO- or -CH=CH-CO-; Z<SP>2</SP>is -CH<SB>2</SB>-, -CO-, -CO-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>2</SB>- or -CO-CH=CH-; A is 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; X<SP>1</SP>is -O-, -O-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>r</SB>- or -O-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>r</SB>-O-; X<SP>2</SP>is -O-, -(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>r</SB>-O- or -O-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>r</SB>-O-; r is an integer of 1-20; P<SP>1</SP>is a polymerizable group; and Q is a group of a bisphenol skeleton.
