METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR COEXISTENCE BETWEEN 20 MHZ AND 40 MHZ OVERLAPPING BASIC SERVICE SETS(OBSS) IN WIRELESS LOCAL AREA NETWORKS

A method and a system for implementing coexistence between OBSS using 20 MHz and 40 MHz in wireless local area networks are provided to enable a receiver to receive an information frame through a wireless communication medium, thereby enabling the STA or AP of a receiving party not to communicate with other devices using 20 MHz RF channels for at least the minimum time section. A method for coexistence between OBSS(Overlapping Basic Service Sets) using 20 MHz and 40 MHz in wireless local area networks comprises the following steps of: allowing a receiving STA(Station) to receive a frame from a transmitting STA which is connected to a foreign BSS(802); allowing the receiving STA to determine whether an HT(High Throughput) function for the foreign BSS is recognized by the receiving STA(804); allowing the receiving STA to determine whether the HT function is operated in a 40MHz intolerant mode(806); allowing the receiving STA to be reconfigured suitably for operation for a 20 MHz channel bandwidth if it is determined that the HT function is operated in the 40MHz intolerant mode(810); allowing the receiving STA to transmit a connection release frame to an HT AP(Access Point)(812); and allowing the receiving STA to be operated in a state of holding a current operation mode if it is determined that the HT function is not operated in the 40MHz intolerant mode(808).
