PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device capable of reducing power consumption required to read an image, and to provide a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: A horizontal transferring part 19 comprises a block A including a plurality of transfer electrodes 20a arranged in a row direction and a block including a plurality of transfer electrodes 20b arranged in the row direction. When the horizontal transferring part 19 is a two-phase drive CCd, wirings 21a and 22a for supplying drive pulsesϕH1A andϕH2A are connected to the block A, and wirings for supplying drive pulsesϕH1B andϕH2B are connected to the block B. When the solid-state image pickup device 1 is driven, after electric charge transfer from the block A to the block B is completed, the supply of the drive pulsesϕH1B andϕH2B to the block B is stopped.
