A reciprocating compressor is provided to easily reduce amplitude of vibration in a fixed member by increasing weight of a cover member which is made of a plate member. A reciprocating compressor comprises a fixed member, an operating member and a cover member such as a motor cover(107). The fixed member forms a compression space for compressing refrigerant. The operating member linearly reciprocates at an inner side of the fixed member. The cover member is connected to a side of the fixed member. The cover member is made of a plate member having a polygonal shape. The plate member includes a plane part(107a), an opening(107h), a side surface(107b), a projection part(107c) and six corner parts(107b').
