A molten metal continuous casting method in which nonmetal inclusions and air bubbles captured inside a slab while improving the properties of the surface of the slab by using an electromagnetic force. The slab surface properties are improved by applying an AC current through an electromagnetic coil (4) so disposed as to surround the casting space (8) around a mold (1) to control the shape of a meniscus. The outlet (6) of an immersion nozzle (5) is placed up, and the direction of the ejected stream (14) from the outlet (6) is above the cross point A between the short side of the casting mold and the meniscus. With this, the nonmetal inclusions and air bubbles in the ejected stream can be absorbed into the continuous casting powder of the meniscus (11) at the meniscus reaching part. The spread of the ejected stream (14) in the direction of the thickness of the slab is suppressed because the ejected stream (14) receives the electromagnetic force due to the electromagnetic coil (4). Therefore, the ejected stream (14) does not come to be in contact with the long-side shell (12). Consequently, it is prevented that any nonmetal inclusions and any air bubbles in the ejected stream (14) are captured by the long-side shell (12). |
