PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector capable of improving detection rate by additionally providing an auxiliary excitation coil mainly generating vertical magnetic field. SOLUTION: A detection gate 100 is constituted of: an excitation coil 101 for generating an alternative magnetic field; an excitation coil 103 for generating alternative magnetic field different in direction from the alternative magnetic field generated by the coil 101; a detection circuit 104 and the signal process circuit 105 for detecting signal generated by the magnetic wire imparted to the recorded paper passing through the alternative magnetic fields generated by the excitation coils 101 and 103.
