PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder the size and cost of which are prevented from getting large, and which can surely push down a lift plate and display the residual amount of paper when a paper feed cassette is extracted. SOLUTION: This paper feeder 1 comprises the paper feed cassette 2 extractable from a printer 100 body and the lift plate 6 which is disposed in the paper feed cassette 2 and on which paper P is placed. The paper feeder further comprises a pushdown mechanism 10 for pushing down the lift plate 6 near the inside bottom surface of the paper feed cassette 2 when the paper feed cassette 2 is extracted, a residual paper amount display mechanism 20 for displaying the residual amount of paper P placed on the lift plate 6, and a link member 8 formed by integrating a pushdown member engaged with the lift plate 6 and pushing down it with a variable member displacing an indication piece 22 indicating the residual amount of paper. Consequently, the pushdown mechanism 10 for the lift plate 6 and the residual paper display mechanism 20 can be compactly stored in proximity to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
