NOVEL POLYETHER POLYOLS BASED ON CASHEW NUTSHELL LIQUID, A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THESE POLYETHER POLYOLS, FLEXIBLE FOAMS PRODUCED FROM THESE POLYETHER POLYOLS, AND A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF THESE FOAMS

A method for preparing polyether polyols is provided to produce polyester polyols suitable for the production of flexible polyurethane foams from a recyclable material such as cashew nutshell liquid. A method for preparing polyether polyols based on a recyclable resource includes a step of reacting (a) a mixture and (b) at least one alkylene oxide in the presence of (c) at least one catalyst in a weight ratio of the components (a) : (b) ranging from 50:50 to 5:95, wherein the polyester polyols have an OH number of 20-130 and a functionality of about 2.8-4.5. The mixture has an OH number of about 180-300 and an average functionality of about 2.8-4.5, and comprises (i) 5-25wt% of cardanol, (ii) 5-15wt% of cardol, (iii) 1-5wt% of 6-methylcardol, and (iv) 60-80wt% of a phenolic OH-functional organic compound having a number average molecular weight greater than 700.
