<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a catalytic purification capability by increasing the contact frequency of an exhaust gas with a catalyst and accelerating the catalytic activity. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst carrier 12 comprises flat sheets 13 and off-set corrugated sheets 14 laminated in layers in such a manner that a large number of carrier cells 15 are formed by using the layered flat sheets 13 and the off-set corrugated sheets 14 as partitions and a catalyst 20 is applied on the inner wall faces of the respective carrier cells 15.
