A muffler for a vehicle is provided to reduce booming noise and improve engine output by optimizing an opening and closing angle of a valve member through using a device generating lift. A muffler for a vehicle comprises a muffler case(10) having an exhaust gas passage(10a). A baffle(20) is installed in the muffler case and has a communication section(21) through which exhaust gas passes. A variable valve member(30) has a passing section(31) through which the exhaust gas introduced into the communication section passes. The variable valve member is moved in the baffle to open and close the communication section according to operation modes of an engine. A cylinder(40) rotates about a cylinder shaft(45) vertically installed to generate lift, thereby optimizing an opening angle of the variable valve member.
