The sabot has bases (2) resting against a surface of a ground, and an oblique support ramp (3) engaged under a rolling strip of a wheel, where the support ramp is formed as an external side of a panel (9) having transverse edges (9a, 9b). The panels are moved relative to the bases between a stable wedging position, where the ramp is relatively inclined to the bases according to wedging angle, and an unstable disengaging position, where the edges of the panels are set closer to the bases. An elastic return device (18) returns the panels in a position, where the ramp is in the wedging position. An independent claim is also included for an installation for wedging a wheel of a rolling machine on a ground.
