<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrical connector for a flat cable capable of having lower height than a conventional electrical connector for a flat cable, and of exerting a noise suppression function even when reduced in height. <P>SOLUTION: This electrical connector 1 for a flat cable includes: a plurality of cantilever-shaped contacts 31 and 32 electrically connected to an FPC 8; an insulative housing 2 holding the contacts 31 and 32; and a shield plate 6 mounted on the housing 2 to cover at least an area in which the FPC 8 comes into contact with the plurality of contacts 31 and 32.
