<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving the durable lifetime of a cleaning member that cleans a rotating body by contacting with the rotating body. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an image carrier 1; a transfer means 5 for transferring a thermal-melting toner image that is carried by the image carrier, according to image information, to a recording material P; the rotating bodies 21 and 22 that hold and carry the recording material at a nip part N between them and thermally fix the toner image to the recording material. The image forming apparatus also includes cleaning members 24 and 25 that function as the cleaning members for cleaning the rotating bodies, for recovering the toner that stuck to the rotating bodies, by contacting with the rotating bodies; and a control means 102, having an edgeless printing mode of transferring the toner image to the recording material beyond the edge of the recording material. The control means is configured so as to decide the timing of cleaning by the cleaning member in the edgeless printing mode, based on the image information corresponding to the toner image lying in the vicinity of the edge of the recording material beyond the edge of the recording material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
