PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor and an image processing method for a liquid crystal display panel that reduce frame memory capacity and also decrease a circuit scale. SOLUTION: The image processor has a frame memory 16 which stores display data of a past frame, an encoding unit 17 which performs thinning-out processing and encoding processing for the data to be stored in the frame memory 16, a decoding unit 14 which decodes the encoded data read out of the frame memory 16 and encoded by the encoding unit 17, a block average value arithmetic unit 12 which computes average values of display data of a current frame by blocks, a still picture decision unit 13 which compares the current frame with the past frame to make a still picture decision and determines display data to be output, and an overdriving driver 15 which determines display data to be output to the liquid crystal panel according to the display data from the still picture decision unit 13 and the display data of the current frame.
