The method involves setting a storage high frequency voltage to a moderately high value or a high value. Oscillatory movements of analyte ions are excited by an electrical field, to produce hard impacts with an impact gas. The oscillatory movements are broken by another electrical field, to collect the impact-excited analyte ions again in the center of a high frequency ion trap.
