PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adopt current reduction control in microstep driving. SOLUTION: A stepping-motor driving method is such that a detected current (io) is controlled to make a detected voltage (Vs), based on the detected current (io) of a stepping motor (M), equal to a reference voltage (Vo); in the drive state, the stepping motor is rotationally driven, while using the current (io) as a drive current; in the hold state, the rotor is held at a fixed position in a stopped state, while the current (io) is used as a holding current that is lower than the drive current; (1) when the stepping motor (M) is in a transient state of being shifted from the hold state to the drive state, the current is controlled so that the reference voltage (Vo) is gradually increased, from a holding voltage to a drive voltage; or (2) when the stepping motor (M) is in a transient state of being shifted from the drive state to the hold state, the current is controlled so that the reference voltage (Vo) is gradually reduced, from the drive voltage to the hold voltage, and alternatively, (3) in both the transient states, control corresponding to each transient state is carried out.
