PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking device for an automatic transmission, which reliably holds a parking released condition and releases parking with the amplification of the solenoid thrust of a small solenoid. SOLUTION: The parking device for the automatic transmission comprises: a parking rod 12 having a rack gear 15 formed on the shaft so as to be moved in the axial direction for engaging/disengaging a parking pole 33 with/from a parking gear 37; a parking lock spring 40 for energizing the parking rod to move the parking rod in the direction of engaging the parking pole with the parking gear; an electromagnetic drive means 21 for moving the parking rod against the energizing force of the parking lock spring in the direction of releasing the parking pole from the parking gear; a pinion 16 to be engaged with the rack gear; a ratchet wheel 18 arranged coaxially with the pinion; and a holding solenoid 41 for preventing the axial movement of the parking rod.
