PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device for displaying road shape guide images, only when their need is high, by determining the degree of the need superimposing and displaying the road shape guide images indicating the shapes of roads for photographing images that indicate the forward state of a vehicle, and to provide a method and program of the device. SOLUTION: The navigation device includes a photographic guide generating part, a road shape guide generating part, a necessity degree calculating part, and a guide control part. The photographic guide generation part generates the photographic guide images by using the photographic images. The road shape guide generating part generates the road shape guide images that indicate the shapes of roads displayed on photographic guide images. The necessity degree calculating part calculates the degree of need, indicating the degree of the need for display of the road shape guide images. The guide control part superimposes and displays the road shape guide images, generated by the road shape guide generating part, on the photographic guide images generated by the photographic guide generating part, based on the degree of the need calculated by the degree of necessity calculating part.
