Composition in the form of an auto-invertible water-in-oil latex comprises an ester oil (I), an aqueous phase, a water-in-oil emulsifier, an oil-in-water emulsfier and 20-70 wt.% of a branched or crosslinked polyelectrolye which is a homopolymer of an alkali metal, ammonium, ethanolamine or lysine 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesufonate (II), a homopolymer of a (meth)acrylate, itaconate or maleate salt (III), a copolymer of (II) and (III), a copolymer of (II) and an optionally ethoxylated 2-hydroxyethyl or 2,3-dihydroxypropyl (meth)acrylate (IV), or a copolymer of (III) and (IV).
