A backlight device is provided to drive more than two LED arrays having multiple light emitting diodes simultaneously or alternately in order to increase light amount or to lengthen the life time of the product. A backlight device comprises a lamp driving part, first and second LED arrays(118a,118b), and an error driving part(118c). The lamp driving part generates driving voltage of a predetermined level. The first and second LED arrays have multiple light emitting diodes(LED1-LEDn). The error driving part is connected between the first and second LED arrays to detect current error state of the first LED array and to drive the second LED array according to the detection result. The light emitting diodes of the first and second LED arrays are connected in series. The error driving part has an error detecting part, and a switching part driving the second LED array according to a signal outputted from the error detecting part.
