An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device with a function of controlling a viewing angle is provided to extend a brightness control range in a narrow view angle mode and to adjust the brightness of a backlight unit adaptively according to the brightness around the LCD device. An LCD device with a function of controlling a viewing angle comprises a liquid crystal panel(140), a backlight unit(120), a viewing angle adjusting filter(160) and a backlight control unit. The backlight unit projects light to the liquid crystal panel. The viewing angle adjusting filter arranged on an LCD panel adjusts the brightness of the LCD panel in a wide or narrow viewing angle mode. The backlight control part senses brightness of the ambient condition and adjusts the brightness of the backlight unit according to the brightness of the ambient condition. The backlight control part has a light sensor(201), an ambient condition judging part(202) and a brightness control part(203). The ambient condition judging part judges the brightness of the ambient condition according to the output of the light sensor. An inverter(204) controls the light source brightness of the backlight unit under the control of the backlight control part. |
