An LCD device and a control method thereof are provided to enable a light source driving sub unit to radiate light to a light source to help a discharge gas and electrons activate before a driving voltage is supplied to the light source, thereby minimizing a black driving fault. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device(1) comprises an LCD panel(20), a light source(50), a lower cover(80), an inverter(90), and a light source driving sub unit. The light source supplies light to the rear of the LCD panel. The lower cover contains the light source and has an opening portion(83) formed at a position corresponding to the light source. The inverter is disposed in the rear of the lower cover and applies a driving voltage to the light source. The light source driving sub unit is installed in the inverter and supplies light to the light source through the opening portion during the initial driving of the light source. |
