A method and a system for providing an IP-TV service are provided to offer the IP-TV service through other terminals connected to a service provider to which a user subscribes, a user's own terminal connected to other service providers, and other terminals connected to the other service providers as well as the user's own terminal connected to the user's own service provider. A method for providing an IP-TV service includes the steps of: authenticating whether or not a user is a subscriber of a second service provider(310) through communication with the second service provider via log-in information inputted and transmitted from a terminal(330) connected to a first service provider by a first service provider(320); providing information on programs which the user uses program information by receiving the program information from the second service provider by the first service provider after the authentication of the subscriber is completed; and providing a stream for contents selected by the user by receiving the stream of the contents from the second service provider by the first service provider.
