A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent erroneous operation by reducing heat radiation from a device or a switching element. A plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel(100), a temperature detector(600), a controller(200), and drivers(300,400,500). The plasma display panel includes plural discharge cells. The temperature detector detects inner temperature of a device. The controller controls first image signals, which are divided into plural sub-fields, in a frame. The drivers drive the plasma display panel according to control signals of the controller. The controller multiplies respective pixel data of the first image signal by a converting coefficient smaller than one, in which the amounts of data is reduced according to the multiplication of the coefficients, and decreases total number of sustain discharge pulses based on the second image signal.
