Engine exhaust catalysts comprising a substrate including a first supported catalyst and a second supported catalyst having palladium and gold species are provided to treat exhaust effectively gases containing CO and HC, and methods for producing the engine exhaust catalysts are provided. As an engine exhaust catalyst comprising a substrate(210) including a first supported catalyst and a second supported catalyst having palladium and gold species, the engine exhaust catalyst is characterized in that the substrate comprises a first region(210A) and a second region(210B), the first supported catalyst is coated on the first region and the second supported catalyst is coated on the second region. The first region is positioned to encounter an engine exhaust gas flow in front of the second region. The first supported catalyst promotes the oxidation of NO and/or HC. The first supported catalyst comprises a platinum-based catalyst. The platinum-based catalyst comprises platinum and palladium. The platinum-based catalyst comprises platinum and bismuth.
